Which Monitor Arm Fits the Samsung Odyssey G9?

By Best Pick Guide Editorial Team · Updated

The Samsung Odyssey G9 is the monitor that breaks monitor arms. It is 49 inches wide, it has a deep 1000R curve, and depending on the model it weighs anywhere from about 20 to about 31 pounds without its stand. Plenty of arms say "up to 49 inches" on the box and still sag under it. Here is what to check.

Know which G9 you have

There are three very different monitors called Odyssey G9, and the weight without the stand is what the arm cares about:

All three use a 100 x 100 mm VESA pattern, so the mounting plate is not the problem. The weight and the curve are.

Why the curve matters as much as the weight

A flat 30 lb panel sits close to the arm's pivot. A 1000R curved panel of the same weight pushes its mass forward and outward, which loads the tilt joint far harder. That is why Ergotron will not rate its standard HX arm for the G9 on its own: the listing says the 2020 G9 needs the separate HX Heavy Duty Tilt Pivot, or the HX HD bundle that includes it. The HD version is rated for 28 to 42 lb screens 6 to 12 inches deep.

Other makers rate the arm itself for 1000R screens instead of selling a pivot. Read the listing for the words "1000R" or "curved" rather than assuming "49 inch" covers it.

Arms that state G9-class support

From the listings we compared on the main page:

A simple rule

Take your G9's weight without the stand and add 25 percent. Buy an arm whose maximum is at least that number and whose listing names curved or 1000R screens. For the 2020 G9 that means an arm rated for 39 lb or more, which leaves the HX with pivot, the WALI and the HUANUO. For the 2023 and OLED models, any of the four will hold it.
