How we compare products

We don't have a lab and we don't pretend to. For every comparison we:

• read the manufacturer's spec sheet and manual for each product,
• read owner questions and complaints to find the problems that show up after a few months,
• compare the two or three things that actually decide whether the product works for you, and
• rank the one that wins on those things first.

If we haven't used a product ourselves, the page says "compared", not "tested".
