Best Travel Adapters for Europe of 2026: 5 Compared for Outlets, USB-C & Size

By Best Pick Guide Editorial Team · Updated

Most of mainland Europe uses round two-pin plugs, so your US chargers need an adapter. That part is easy. The harder part is that a hotel room often has one free outlet by the bed, and you have a phone, a watch, earbuds, a camera and maybe a laptop to charge.

Single plug adapters solve the shape problem but not the outlet problem, and many travelers don't realize an adapter isn't a voltage converter until a hair dryer stops working.

We compared five travel adapters for Europe, from simple plug-shape adapters to multi-port chargers. One turns a single European outlet into four US outlets plus USB-C and USB-A ports, and weighs just 3.48 ounces.

Why TESSAN European Travel Plug Adapter 7-in-1, 2 Pack is our #1 pick

Charge everything from one outlet

The TESSAN turns one wall socket into 4 US outlets and 3 USB ports, so your phone, watch, camera and laptop all charge overnight from the single outlet by the bed.

USB-C built in

A 15W USB-C port means you can charge a phone without packing its wall brick. Two USB-A ports handle older cables and accessories.

Small enough to forget

At 3.48 ounces and about the size of a deck of cards, it disappears into a daypack, and the 2-pack covers a second room or traveler.

What to look for

Adapter is not converter

Europe runs at about 230V. Check your devices' labels for '100-240V'. Phones, laptops and most chargers are fine; single-voltage hair dryers and straighteners need a converter or a dual-voltage model.

Count your devices

If you charge several things each night, a multi-outlet adapter saves you buying several single plugs. If you only charge a phone, a tiny plug adapter is enough.

Check the countries

Type C fits sockets across mainland Europe. Italy and Switzerland have their own socket types too, and the UK and Ireland use a different plug. See our plug type guide.

Watch the power limit

Stay well under the adapter's rated watts and amps. Don't plug high-power heating appliances into a small adapter.

FAQ

What plug do I need for Europe?

Most of mainland Europe uses Type C round two-pin plugs, which also fit Type E and F sockets. The UK and Ireland use Type G. See our guide to European plug types.

Do I need a voltage converter for Europe?

Only for single-voltage devices. If the label says 100-240V, you just need a plug adapter. See our guide on voltage converters for Europe.

Can I use my hair dryer in Europe with an adapter?

Only if it's dual voltage. Most US hair dryers are 120V only and can be damaged, or dangerous, on 230V. Buy a dual-voltage travel dryer or use the hotel's.

Will one adapter work in the UK too?

Not a Type C adapter. The UK uses Type G. A universal adapter like the EPICKA covers the UK, Europe and more.

Bottom line

For a trip to Europe, the TESSAN 7-in-1 is the adapter to buy: 4 US outlets, USB-C and USB-A from one European socket, in a 3.48 oz plug that comes as a 2-pack. Choose the LENCENT for the most USB ports and a foldable plug, the EPICKA if your trip includes the UK or Asia, the Ceptics for a tiny plug with a lifetime warranty, and the Unidapt 4-pack for the lightest option.
