Best Laptop Stands for Desk of 2026: 5 Compared for Height, Capacity & Fit

By Best Pick Guide Editorial Team · Updated

A laptop is designed to be portable, not to be looked at all day. Flat on a desk, its screen sits well below eye level, so you spend the workday looking down at it.

A laptop stand fixes the height in seconds. But cheap stands wobble when you type, only fit small laptops, or sit at one height that suits nobody in particular.

We compared five laptop stands for desk use, from one-piece aluminum risers to a telescopic stand. One raises a laptop up to 18 inches, tilts and rotates 360 degrees, holds up to 22 lb and fits laptops up to 17 inches.

What to look for

Fixed or adjustable?

Fixed stands are simple, sturdy and look clean. Adjustable stands let you fine-tune height and angle, and suit standing desks or shared desks. See our fixed vs adjustable guide.

Check laptop size and depth

Make sure the stand fits your laptop's size, and its depth for one-piece stands like the mStand.

Use a keyboard and mouse

A raised laptop is hard to type on. Pair the stand with an external keyboard and mouse. See our setup guide.

Think about portability

Foldable stands go in a bag for travel or coworking. One-piece aluminum stands stay on the desk.

FAQ

Is a laptop stand worth it?

If you work on a laptop at a desk for hours, yes. It raises the screen closer to eye level. Pair it with a keyboard and mouse.

How high should a laptop stand be?

High enough that the top of the screen is around eye level when you sit or stand normally. Adjustable stands make this easy to fine-tune.

Can I type on a laptop on a stand?

Not comfortably, because the keyboard is raised and angled. Use an external keyboard and mouse at desk height.

Do laptop stands help with cooling?

Many are open aluminum designs that allow airflow under the laptop, which can help it run cooler.

Bottom line

For a desk, the Nulaxy 18-inch telescopic stand is the laptop stand to buy: height up to 18 inches, tilt and 360-degree rotation, a 22 lb capacity and room for laptops up to 17 inches. Choose the Rain Design mStand for a solid one-piece aluminum riser, the foldable Nulaxy for an adjustable stand that travels, the Twelve South Curve for the cleanest look, and the BESIGN LS03 for a stand that comes apart to store flat.
