Winter means early mornings scraping the car, long hours in a cold tree stand, and stadium seats that soak up the chill. A thick coat helps until you have to move in it. A heated vest puts the warmth on your chest and back and leaves your arms free.
The catch is in the fine print. Many cheap heated vests ship without a battery, so you still have to buy a power bank that can run them. Others don't say how long the heat lasts, or say nothing about who tested the battery.
We compared five men's heated vests. One comes with its own UL-certified battery, lists up to 10 hours on low, washes in the machine once the battery is out, and has a water- and wind-resistant shell.
A classic hip-length puffer vest with four carbon fiber heating zones: the collar, mid-back and both hand pockets. One button picks from three heat levels. The UL-certified 7.38V, 4800mAh (35.4Wh) battery is listed at up to 10 hours on low, 6 on medium and 3 on high, and it has a USB port to charge your phone.

A slim, stretchy softshell vest for walking, commuting and light outdoor work. Four carbon fiber zones heat both hand pockets, the mid-back and the lower back. It uses the same UL-certified 7.38V, 4800mAh (35.4Wh) battery as ORORO's puffer, with one-button control of three heat levels.

KEMIMOTO Heated Vest for Men (Battery Not Included)
A fitted vest with six carbon fiber heating pads on the belly, waist and back, and a soft velvet lining. Two control switches and three heat levels let you pick which pads run. It runs from a USB power bank you supply, and without power it still works as a plain winter vest.
6 heating zones with 2 control switches and 3 heat levels
Use a USB power bank you already own
Soft velvet lining; machine wash, per the care label
Sold for hunting, fishing, dog walking and outdoor work
No battery in the box; you must buy or supply a power bank
Listed at up to 8 hours, which depends on the power bank you use
With no battery included, there is no battery certification to check
Many heated vests are sold without a battery. If the title says "battery not included," add the cost and hassle of a power bank, and check what voltage the vest needs. Some vests need a 7.4V battery that a normal 5V USB bank can't run.
Read the run time on low
Listings give the longest time, which is on the lowest heat. High often lasts only about 3 hours. If you'll be out all day, look for 10 hours or more on low, or carry a second battery.
Look for a certified battery
A battery sits against your body for hours. Some listings say the battery is UL-certified; many say nothing. Pick one that tells you.
Think about zones and the shell
More zones spread the heat wider; a heated collar warms the neck. A water- and wind-resistant shell lets you wear the vest on its own on a wet, windy day. See our heated vest vs heated jacket guide if you're still deciding.
Questions about heated vest for men
How long does a heated vest battery last?
It depends on the heat level. The ORORO vests list about 3 hours on high, 6 on medium and up to 10 on low. Zylyva lists up to 11 hours on low. See our battery guide.
Can I use my own power bank with a heated vest?
Only if the vest is made for it. The KEMIMOTO runs on a USB power bank you supply. Zylyva says a 5V USB bank can't run its full vest, so use the battery it comes with.
Can you wash a heated vest?
All five here can be washed once the battery is out. ORORO, Zylyva and KEMIMOTO list machine washing. KAWELA says hand wash, or machine wash in its laundry bag.
Which is the best heated vest on the market for hunting?
For hunting, the KAWELA softshell is sold for it, with 8 zones, a battery in the box and a controller light you can switch off. The ORORO puffer is our pick for most men.
Bottom line: the best heated vest for men
For most men, the ORORO 4-zone heated vest is the one to get: it comes with a UL-certified battery, lists up to 10 hours on low and washes in the machine. Choose the Zylyva for the longest stated run time and 8 zones, the KAWELA for hunting, the ORORO softshell for a slim vest on active days, and the KEMIMOTO if you already own a power bank.
