How Often Should You Run a Robot Vacuum on Carpet?
The big advantage of a robot vacuum is that it doesn't mind cleaning every day. On carpet, that matters more than on any other floor.
Why little and often works best
Dirt that sits in carpet gets walked deeper into the pile every day. Once it's deep, it's harder to pull out, and grit wears the fibers down. A robot that runs often picks dirt up while it's still near the surface.
A short daily run usually does more for carpet than one long weekly run.
A simple schedule
- Homes with pets or kids: once a day. Pet hair builds up fast in carpet.
- Busy household, no pets: once a day, or every other day.
- One or two people, low traffic: two or three times a week.
- Entryways and high-traffic rugs: add an extra spot clean, or let a robot with dirt detection spend more time there.
Schedule runs when you're out, so you don't have to step around the robot. Most robot apps let you pick rooms and times.
Keep it cleaning at full strength
A robot running on carpet every day needs a little upkeep:
- Empty the bin or dock. A self-emptying dock, like the Shark AV2501AE with a bagless base that holds up to 60 days of debris, does most of this for you.
- Clean the brush weekly. Carpet fibers and hair wrap around it. Cut or pull them free.
- Tap out the filter weekly, and replace it as the maker recommends.
- Wipe the sensors monthly. Dusty sensors cause missed spots and bumping.
- Check the wheels for wrapped hair and thread.
Don't forget the deep clean
Daily robot runs keep carpet tidy, but they don't replace an occasional deep clean. Every few months, or after spills, use an upright vacuum or a carpet cleaner on high-traffic areas. Robots with a portable spot cleaner, like the eufy E28, can handle small stains in between.
