How Much Does a 32-Inch Monitor Weigh, and Will a Monitor Arm Hold It?

By Best Pick Guide Editorial Team · Updated

Before you buy a monitor arm, you need one number: what your monitor weighs without its stand. For 32-inch monitors, that number varies more than you might expect.

Typical weights

Most 32-inch monitors weigh roughly 10 to 20 pounds without the stand. Where yours falls depends on a few things:

So don't guess. Look it up.

Finding your monitor's real weight

  1. Find your exact model number. It's on a label on the back of the monitor.
  2. Search the model number plus "specifications".
  3. Look for "weight without stand" or "panel weight". Don't use "weight with stand" or "package weight". The stand alone can be several pounds.

If the spec sheet only lists the weight with the stand, the real number is lower. But use the higher figure if that's all you have. It's the safe side.

How much headroom to leave

A gas spring arm works best in the middle of its range. Used at its maximum, it's more likely to sag slowly or drift down over time.

A good rule: choose an arm whose maximum is at least a few pounds above your monitor's weight. For a heavier 32-inch monitor, an arm rated for 24 lb or more, like the VIVO heavy-duty arm rated to 26.4 lb, gives you that margin.

Also check the minimum. Many arms list a minimum weight around 4 lb. Every 32-inch monitor is well above that.
